Audrey Hepburn a film and fashion icon would have been 85 today (4th of May). Her quirky, chic style always inspires me when I choose to dress up. She is absolutely gorgeous

1. Find your style and own it
2. You can never own too many black dresses.
3. Own a sexy LBD
4. Dance, sing, laugh…be happy
5. Be passionate about what you choose to do in life

Working around children is one of the best things I ever did in my life- children are real, speak their minds, their honest to a fault and love unconditionally if you love them too.
Everyday is a learning curve for them and you. I know without fail I will smile, laugh, shake my head and be like ‘huh’ every single day. They teach you the art of patience, love, learning, appreciation, respect and trust. (I have met some bad-BAD kids, but that said for the most part I have only encountered the kind of children that warm my heart and bring me joy.)
Sitting down with one of these joys, 8yr old ‘A’- (this young guy has moments of bordering good and bad- he skates the thin line strategically) he said something that made me laugh so hard I was so close to falling off my seat. He looked at me and said, ‘What’s so funny? Do you think what I am saying is that funny?’ ‘Can you not see that I require (requested tool) for my experiment to be successful, great inventors need these.’ I looked at him and said,’no, you have actually opened my eyes to seeing the world in a new way and have inspired me to write a childrens book.’ He says, ‘Well that’s great, does that mean I will be in it?’ to that said, ‘yes you are the star of my book.’
Since that moment our conversations are wittier, funnier and just down right things books are made of.
I have always journaled, written in some way or another- hello blog! But have never been so inspired as I was in that 1 moment. In true Ruby fashion I had to do the research, understand what I would be taking on and filter all my commitments. In as much as I would want this book to be out and ready with the click of a finger (don’t we all wish we could snap snap and be done with things in as quickly as we could snap…sigh) I had to do a rundown of my current commitments-jobs, life, personal growth. (Thats a blog post for another day) What I know now is that in following our dreams, gut and visions we can achieve great things accomplish the extraordinary and live happy lives. I cant wait to share with you ‘The tales of A’- A not so children’s book (clearly it is still a working title- the bottomline is it won’t be relegated to the children’s book section only)

So thankful spring is officially here- Couldn’t possibly deal with anymore cold #sigh…
I have spent too many nights & days indoors. time to start packing away coats and lose some layers of clothing.
I have been looking for swimwear inspiration for an upcoming trip and of course in true Ruby Nicole Achek style I turned to yesteryear for inspiration.
These women from the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s etc really knew how to sex it up without over sexualizing swimwear as is the case nowadays.
This weekend I have a shopping trip planned for a client and will definitely be looking out for some vintage inspired swim suits.

Currently obsessing over hot pink…Well i always obsess over hot pink- its undoubtedly one of my fav colours. I’m working it slowly into my wardrobe- looking to make a gorgeous coat for spring. Here’s to another DIY weekend.
I love the weekend…it’s my time to work on projects, chill out and have fun with friends. In my search of a DIY/sewing challenge I remembered I have a conference to go to soon and have nothing to wear (well not really butttt in my defense- who doesn’t like a little something new…) So I started working on a Spring inspired look. I started of with breaking down whether I wanted to wear a dress, skirt, culottes etc then went on to pick from the many spring-colour options out there. I settled on yellow and went around looking for yellow skirts, yellow blouses, yellow dresses, yellow pants 🙂 ( I do have a little obsession with yellow- like gold it’s such an ‘alive’ colour, it’s warm and radiating, yellow definitely always cheers me up.
In my spare time I will be working on a skirt- this could involve some DIY or maybe one will pop up in my many thrifting adventures-either way, I can’t wait till spring- bright colours, warm weather, lazy champagne brunches on sunday…Get here already spring
